A Community Effort to Keep Our Alleys Clean: The Power of Volunteering
On a crisp Saturday morning, a dedicated group of volunteers from the Orchards Community Forum embarked on a mission to tackle the issue of fly tipping and litter in the alleys surrounding Elm Road, Oak Road, and Grove Road. Among them was local councillor John Kent, a regular participant in these alley clean-up events.
In his words, Kent expressed his gratitude for the volunteers' unwavering commitment to maintaining a clean and tidy community. He highlighted the significant impact of their efforts, stating, 'This morning, we collectively managed to fill almost a four-tonne wagon with the rubbish that had been thoughtlessly dumped in our neighborhood, and we did it in just over an hour!'
The Orchards Forum alley clean-up events take place on the second Saturday of every month, providing an opportunity for residents to unite and make a tangible difference in their environment. The next scheduled session is set for March 14, starting at 9 am in the car park adjacent to the Elm Road Open Space. Participants will conclude their efforts with a warm beverage at the Grays Town Park Cafe.
The organizers warmly welcome any additional assistance, emphasizing that every contribution, no matter how small, is invaluable in their collective effort to keep the community clean and beautiful.
